Pelion and Potistika

Pelion, the native country of the legendary Centaurs, the site chosen by the ancient gods for their weddings and celebrations, rises in lush magnificence to the northeastern of Volos. It was here that the centaur Chiron, the wise teacher of demigods and heroes, gave his pupils daily instructions in the proper care of body and soul. Here too, the first beauty contest took place between Thetis and Eris more modern popular muse who sung of the unquenchable desire of the Greek people for freedom.

The highest peaks of Pelion (Pliasidi 1.548 m., Pourianos Stavros, 1.160 m.) are in the northern part of the range. Its inaccessible eastern flank, with the Aegean stretching out into the distance like in the sea, creating wildly beautiful rocky shores. Conversely, the tranquil, calm coast of the west flank on the Pagasitikos gulf is much easier to reach and encourages shipping activity. Pelion´s picturesque villages sometimes clinging to wooded slopes or ravines are so much a part of the scenery that seen from a distance they create the impression of having "sprouted out" along with the trees..

Potistika in the greater area of Xinovrisi, which belongs to the municipality of Argalasti, is a natural paradise; with a clean, vast sandy beach, crisp clean blue waters reflecting the golden colours of the sunrise and the silver rays of the full moon, it is an awesome experience for the visitor.
The beach is very close to Volos and connected with a well preserved road. As with many other places of Pelion, the area combines the blue of sea with the green of the mountain at its best.

The beach is located at a distance of approximately 49 km from Volos, 11 km from Argalasti, and 17 km from Horto.
